About us
Kakilang is a non-profit arts organisation championing East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) artists and communities. We support work across art forms and empower creatives to develop ambitious, critically-engaged projects that are not reduced to racial identity.
Kakilang (自己人), meaning “one of us” in the Hokkien dialect, reflects the sense of kinship and connection we foster within and beyond ESEA communities. To us, Kakilang represents people coming together through art—diverse voices, shared experiences, and collective imagination.
Founded in 2007 as Chinatown Arts Space, the organisation was renamed Chinese Arts Space in 2014, then Chinese Arts Now in 2018, before becoming Kakilang in 2022.
