CAN x Two Temple Place was an exhibition and programme of performances, workshops and talks that brought contemporary British Chinese artists into dialogue with the architecture and history of Two Temple Place in London. Artists were invited to respond to the neo-Gothic mansion built in 1895 by William Waldorf Astor, exploring its historical context and cultural symbolism.
Using digital media and gaming technology, the project created an interactive 3D environment through which audiences could experience artworks, performances and discussions online. The programme examined contrasting migration histories, from the wealth of figures such as Astor to the experiences of Chinese migrants in Britain, reflecting on identity, class and the layered histories of diaspora communities.
