Duck Rabbit is a film project by writer Pamela Carter that explores themes of family, heritage and identity through an imagined correspondence between her two grandmothers in Singapore and England. Born around the turn of the 20th century, their parallel yet separate lives reflect differing cultural, social and historical contexts shaped by colonial histories.
Drawing on archival photographs inherited from her family, the work examines questions of mixed-race identity, memory and inherited narratives. Its title references the duck–rabbit optical illusion, evoking how a single image or history may be understood through multiple, shifting perspectives.
