Walls
2020
Walls is an atmospheric and immersive microcosm in which Chloe Wing’s songs and paper-cut installations explore psychological enclosures with diaristic intimacy. Addressing themes of self-consciousness, anxiety, alienation and memory, the work reveals hidden interior landscapes. Intricate cut-outs conceal private thoughts, while veiled figures soften physical presence to foreground music and language.
Engaging with ideas of community and belonging, Wing examines how age, gender, identity and ethnicity shape perception and social interaction. Humane and cathartic, the work reflects on the lasting impact of cultural conventions on the psyche and emotional wellbeing.
