Nanjing is a performance directed by Elayce Ismail and performed by Jude Christian that reflects on identity, history and the human consequences of war. Drawing on the historical events of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, the work combines personal storytelling with political reflection to examine how historical violence continues to shape contemporary perspectives and memory.

Through direct address and intimate monologue, the performance explores questions of mixed-race identity, belonging and moral responsibility. Moving between personal narrative and historical reflection, Nanjing considers the tensions between love, conflict and pacifism, inviting audiences to reflect on empathy, sacrifice and the complexities of confronting injustice in a turbulent political moment.
