Ghost Girl / Gwei Mui
2019
Ghost Girl / Gwei Mui is a theatre work that explores questions of identity, belonging and family through the story of a British Chinese woman raised by a white British family. Drawing on autobiographical elements, the piece reflects on what it means to navigate cultural identity in contemporary Britain and the tensions that can arise between heritage, upbringing and personal experience.
Through storytelling, ensemble performance and layered voices, the work examines themes of adoption, cultural difference and the search for self-understanding. Ghost Girl / Gwei Mui offers a personal yet widely resonant reflection on how family, love and social perception shape our sense of who we are.
