Augmented Chinatown
2019
Augmented Chinatown was a site-specific exhibition presented as part of Chinese Arts Now Festival 2019.
Conceived as a promenade work, it unfolded as a guided exploration of London’s Chinatown in Soho, revealing an environment that bridged physical and digital space. Through video installations and augmented reality sculptures, the project introduced speculative digital forms into the existing urban fabric.
Experienced sequentially, the works formed an alternative landscape examining identity, cultural symbolism and the layered histories of Chinese communities and the wider diaspora. Drawing connections between mythological narratives and contemporary conditions, the project used technologically mediated storytelling to disrupt everyday perception and encourage reflection on place, memory and cultural presence.
