Flowing
2014
Flowing is a large-scale public sculpture that reflects ideas of movement, continuity and cultural heritage. The work by Chua Boon Kee, titled Environmental Sculptures, was selected as the winning proposal in an international competition commissioned by Shaftesbury, developed around the theme of sustainability.
Inspired by the Chinese idiom yin shui si yuan (饮水思源), which reflects on remembering one’s origins, the sculpture draws on the imagery of flowing water to evoke cycles of renewal and connection across generations. Installed in London’s Chinatown, the work invites reflection on migration, cultural memory and the evolving relationship between place, community and environment.
