Join Kakilang and Soho Theatre for an insightful exploration of this year’s Verity Bargate Award - from how to apply to script preparation for submission to Soho Theatre.

With the submission window for the Award open until 17 June, Soho Theatre has been hosting playwriting workshops across the UK and Ireland.

For this workshop, they are specifically inviting artists associated with Kakilang to join them.

What to expect:

  • Gain an understanding of Soho Theatre’s current programs, their theatre spaces, and their unique approach to storytelling and theatricality.

  • In the first part of the workshop, learn about the Verity Bargate Award and Soho Theatre’s heritage of new writing.

  • In the second part, explore the merits and potential limitations of dramatic conventions, discovering how they shape narrative and engage audiences.

  • Finally, participants will look at the script samples of plays that have been programmed by Soho Theatre and will provide insight into the tactics used by playwrights to captivate their audiences and enrich your own writing practice.

Kakilang's latest production 'The Dao of Unrepresentative British Chinese Experience’ by Daniel York Loh, Kakilang’s Associate Artistic Director that has been programmed by Soho Theatre, showing on 19th June - 13th July.
